Hello,
My name is Monique Terrell (she/her/hers) and I am a master’s level counselor at Bella Mente Counseling LLC. I have my Master’s Degree in Social Work and a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Rhode Island College. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)in Rhode Island with my reciprocity licensure application for Massachusetts in processing; expected for April 2023. I will be working in the Woonsocket and Warwick location as well as over telehealth.
I want you to know that I am proud of you for seeking services to support you with managing the stressors in your life. We often dedicate our time to our families, managing multiple roles, with little time for self-care. I would love to support you with seeking liberation. I am someone that empowers individuals to “own their story” without shame . I firmly believe that we have shared experiences of feeling alone, struggling to manage while dealing with stressors that impact your daily functioning and diminish your quality of life.
I have been working as a social worker in the mental and behavioral health industry for more than 10 years. The focus of my work for the last five years has been supporting children, youth and families involved with the local government’s child welfare agency; addressing concerns related to child abuse and neglect.
I have experience as a social worker within various settings inclusive of the adult department of corrections, juvenile detention facilities, higher education with a focus on supporting incarcerated students and those anticipating the experience of prisoner reentry, and community-based settings. I provided treatment to client populations with diagnosis of PTSD, ADHD, Bipolar Disorders, depression, and anxiety. Including clients with experiences inclusive of obesity, weigh loss, grief/loss, LGBTQIA2S+, sexual assault survivors, domestic violence survivors, and victims of systemic racism and discrimination.
In session I operationalize several therapeutic techniques to support clients such as multi-modal therapy, expressive arts therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), solution focused therapy (SFT), interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic therapy, emotion focused therapy, family therapy, group therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and play therapy. I employ decolonizing modalities
I am passionate about promoting racial equity. I am committed to ending racism experienced by individuals identifying as Black, Indigenous and people of color. I include non traditional approaches to therapy and modalities respecting cultural diversity aimed at the decolonization of Black mental health care.
I am someone who sparks change, improving the quality of life, and relationships. Some feel like no matter their attempt to make things better, it’s never enough leading to more stress and frustration. We partner together to explore their history, identifying patterns to raise awareness so that they have more control of their emotions.
You are capable of improving your circumstances if you have the motivations to change. Together we may explore parts of yourself that you never knew existed. The process of therapy may result in your growth and accomplishment of your personal goals. Therapy can be fun, and as a therapist I prioritize utilizing my creative human capacity to assist you with shifting your thoughts, feelings, behaviors and perspectives.
You are ready to reach your full potential. You are the expert of your life and I only encompass less than a fraction of your life in any given time period. I hope you will consider prioritizing your own self-care in partnership with Bella Mente Counseling! My colleagues and I are available to assist your healing and recovery from traumatic life experiences. We may not solve every problem that you identify, but we aim to increase your self-awareness, increase your awareness to use self-direction to change negative or undesirable behaviors, increase clarity, improve self-esteem, and boost self-reliance.
Be well,
Monique Terrell, MSW,LICSW
